The Knowledge Press: The Family

The Family draws a family as an orchard you drive through in the browser. It runs at flux-frontiers.github.io/kpress_family.

  • Each family line, the people born with one surname, is a tree. Its founder is the trunk, every limb runs from a parent to a child, and each person is a tuft of leaves.
  • The lines of a surname stand together in a grove, and the groves sit on ring roads around the hub.
  • At the hub, the home tree is one person's whole family: their descendants are the crown, and their ancestors are the roots, seen through a glass floor over a lit pit.

You drive a lantern cart up to a tree to read its line's records, add lines to your album, search names, places and years, or ride the guided tour, which visits the groves in the order their families began.

The public site shows three families built from public GEDCOM files: The Kennedys, The Tudors and George Washington's Family. People who may be living are shown as "Living", with no dates, places or record. See Privacy and the demo families.

The orchard reads the files that genkg export-web writes from a GenealogyKG store. How to build a store from a GEDCOM file and export it is documented on the GenealogyKG site.
